Deering Grants 2017-2018
Deadline: October 31, 2017
Sites and program centers that hold a current membership in OMA-UCC may apply for a $1,000.00 grant from the National Church annually. Grants may be awarded for staff professional development, for program support, to reduce the carbon footprint at your site, and much more.
There has been a tremendous response to the Deering Grants over the years. This is another reason why there is great benefit to a site membership in the Outdoor Ministries Association. Grants were started in 2008 from a proposal from OMA to the National Officers in Ceveland to use these resorses that had been designated for Outdoor Ministries in the United Church of Christ.
The Deering Fund was established from the sale of the Deering Conference Center property in Deering New Hampshire in the late 1980s. Since then, this fund has continued to grow and now makes the Deering Grants possible. Additionally, this fund is used to help support a National Staff person and assists keeping educational events for outdoor ministry affordabe. The resources that make all this possible is just from the interest alone; the principal is not being used.
Deering Grant Process
Deering grants are available to OMA members who have paid their dues by May 1, 2017 and had not received a Deering Grant in the last year. Grants are available for up to $1,000 to be used for energy conservation, programming, education, and/or developmental experiences for children, youth, or adults. Grants are not available for site development. Grant applications will be reviewed and awarded by the OMA Board of Directors in the fall. The deadline for application is October 31, 2017.
